Here are a few tips on how to make your home much safer and resistant to the spread of a wildfire.

  1. Remove leaves debris from gutters and downspouts.

  2. Repair any loose shingles or roofing that has damage.

  3. Install a fire-resistant roof.

  4. Keep firewood and other flammable materials in safety containers and far away from your home.

  5. Ask the power company to remove branches from power lines around your house.

  6. Prune any branches that are over your roof or are within the immediate area of your home or garage.

  7. Install a 1/8 inch metal mesh screening over air vents.

  8. Water lawn deeply to reduce the prospect of it becoming dead and a fire hazard.

  9. Keep lawnmowers, garden furniture, and other bulky items at least 30 feet from your home to ensure a clear path in case of an emergency.
